Christian marriage

In Christian marriage, wife and husband are called to live faithfully together, to love each other with respect, tenderness and delight…. They help to shape a society in which human dignity and happiness may flourish and abound.’
Marriage Service from the Book of Common Order

Church of Scotland ministers can legally perform marriages, but they would always want to spend time with a couple before agreeing to marry them, to be satisfied that they understand what is meant by Christian marriage and that a Christian ceremony is appropriate.

Blessing of a civil marriage

Church of Scotland ministers can also conduct blessing ceremonies for people who have already been married by a registrar and not by a minister. In this, the wife and husband stand together at the front of the church, and may be attended by friends.

If you would like to discuss any of these things, please contact Revd Peter Bluett on 0131 476 5212. Email: minister@n-c.org.uk
