Newhaven Church History

From February 2006 until October 2007, Newhaven Church had been a vacant charge. The last service was led by our previous minister, Grant MacLaughlin. Throughout this period the true Church -- the body of believers under Christ's leadership -- had grown in numbers and spiritual strength, for which we give God all credit and praise.

While Newhaven Church was without a minister the oversight of the congregation was diligently undertaken by the Rev Peter Neilson, as our Interim Moderator.

Our search for a new minister began in the spring of 2006. Our chosen candidate was originally from Southern Africa where he had been a minister at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Pretoria. Latterly living in Switzerland, he had been working as a Youth Minister in the Anglican Church in Basel. After a 6 month period of familiarisation in the Scottish Presbyterian Church, we called Peter Bluett as our Minister in October 2007.

The following video consists of a collage of home videos and photographs taken by members of the Church Fellowship. It depicts the progress of Newhaven Church from its life in a church building in urgent need of repair, to a period when we met in Newhaven Primary School, to a newly refurbished building where we worship today.
